Transitioning In the Classroom
Transitioning from one activity to another during a school day can be where much of the day is spent. This can be a positive experience and one that also provides for more learning opportunities. Unfortunately, this period frequently becomes a trying time for teachers and students alike. It is most helpful to plan for transitions by having many ideas at your disposal, as this will make your day go that much more smoothly. Without organizing for these times of switching from one activity to the next, chaos ensues!

Examples
Roll a Cube – Each side of the cube displays a question, nursery rhyme, movement etc., Children take turns rolling and then recite or perform action.
Clothes pins with child’s name – These can be used in numerous ways in the classroom. One example is to have the children mark their center choice. Another, when working individually with children, remove the clip and place in the can as a way to indicate their completion.
Upon entering the classroom the child removes their name and puts in the I Am Here envelope
Label shelves with picture and printed words so child can return object where it belongs
